SEA CUBES by ASN Director, Donald Urquhart

SEA CUBES

In the harbour town of Dunbar, located 45 kilometres east of Edinburgh, improvement work is underway on the historic Battery on Lamer Island. The Battery was built as a defensive outpost in 1781. The improvements will not only stabilise the structure itself, but will improve access, introduce both garden and performance spaces and have enhanced interpretive material. The overall project is being co-ordinated by Rankin Fraser, Landscape Architects.

The project includes SEA CUBES a major new public art project by Art, Space + Nature, Programme Director, Donald Urquhart, commissioned by Dunbar Harbour Trust. The permanent work is currently in production and is due for completion this Spring. There will also be a series of temporary projects at that time, in conjunction with the Dunbar Science Festival, the Town House Museum and North Light Arts.

This is the first in a series of postings, in the form of visual essays, which will follow progress of the artwork, through to installation.
