Robert Powell | Book Launch and Exhibition

Friday, April 1 6:00pm – April 8 7:30pm

Stag Studio, 47 – 49 York Place, Edinburgh

PRIVATE VIEW: 6 – 8.00PM, Friday 1st April 2011

Yellowback Productions invites you to the launch of the book Macpherson’s Cave and Other Antiquarian Enquiries by Robert Powell, a comprehensive conspectus of the career to date of one of Scotland’s most exciting young artists. The evening will also see the launch of Praise of Folly the first in a series of publications between Yellowback Productions and leading artists combining wo…rd and image. To celebrate the launch, we are also proud to present Histories of the Perplexed, the first showing of Powell’s latest work, including a foray into the world of the myriorama, alongside a selection of older works featured in the book.

By turns witty, playful, hallucinatory and sardonic, Powell’s work delves into the past to uncover the troublous and fragmented roots of the present – past, or rather pasts, some historical, some mythical, some literary and some wholly imaginary. He produces histories by the perplexed, for the perplexed and about the perplexed; histories that embrace, explore and seek to understand that state of bemusement that is the common lot of most of us, most of the time.

Since graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 2008, Robert Powell has attracted the attention of collectors and critics alike, and with Histories of the Perplexed it is easy to see why.

The night will be opened by Stuart Kelly, Literary Editor of Scotland on Sunday and a contributor to Macpherson’s Cave and Other Antiquarian Enquiries.

OPEN 7 DAYS: 10am – 6.00pm
