CORE Launch | Evolution House, Edinburgh College of Art
Thursday 3rd March 2011
3-5 pm presentations & introduction to CORE
5-7 pm informal discussion & refreshments
CORE is a new research project based at eca. Initiated by artists Elizabeth Ogilvie, Anne Bevan and landscape architect Ross Mclean, it aims to bring together a network of creative practitioners – artists, architects, landscape architects and writers with partners working in science and anthropology. The CORE network is concerned with promoting awareness of climate change and therefore cultural change, inspiring the public to examine their relationship with the environment, with art as a central means of communication.
A series of meetings, workshops and fora will bring together network members and the public to present and discuss creative responses to environmental change from a number of fields. The emphasis will be on cross-disciplinary discussions and through these to generate creative events and projects.
The launch event will include a series of short presentations and conversations with network partners introducing the ideas of the CORE project. We are also launching the CORE website, which has information about the project and participants, and will serve as a database for future activity.
Partners in the project include the University of Edinburgh School of Geosciences, the University of Aberdeen Department of Social Anthropology, the University of St Andrews School of Literature and the Pier Arts Centre, Orkney.
CORE is funded by the Royal Society of Edinburgh
